Lab analyzer integration: results go straight from the machine to the report
ClinikPe connects your haematology, biochemistry, immunoassay, urine and electrolyte analyzers to the lab software, so each result lands on the right patient's report without anyone typing it. Your technicians review and approve instead of copying numbers from a printout.
- ASTM, HL7 or serial connections, unidirectional or bidirectional
- Set up remotely by our team, usually within a working day
- Abnormal values flagged against age- and sex-specific ranges on arrival

Key facts about ClinikPe analyzer integration
- Protocols: ASTM (CLSI LIS1/LIS2), HL7 v2 and serial or file output, depending on what the analyzer supports.
- Modes: unidirectional (results only) and bidirectional (test orders sent to the analyzer by barcode).
- Departments: haematology, biochemistry, immunoassay, urine, electrolytes, coagulation and HbA1c.
- Setup: done remotely by ClinikPe, including mapping analyzer test codes to your tests. Standard connections usually take a few hours.
- Checks: values are matched by sample barcode and compared with reference ranges for the patient's age and sex.
- Availability: depends on the exact make, model and its data-output settings, so every model is confirmed before setup.
Typing results is where most avoidable report errors start
A technician copying 300 values a day from an analyzer screen will, sooner or later, swap two digits, miss a decimal point or put a result against the patient in the next row. Every one of those has to be caught at review, or it reaches a doctor.
Interfacing removes the copying. The analyzer and ClinikPe identify each sample by its barcode, so the value that leaves the machine is the value that lands on the report.
How a result travels from analyzer to report
-
Register and barcode
The patient is registered in ClinikPe and each tube gets a barcode label.
-
Order reaches the analyzer
In bidirectional mode the analyzer reads the barcode and asks ClinikPe which tests to run. In unidirectional mode the tech loads the order on the analyzer.
-
Run
The analyzer runs the tests and sends each result with the sample ID over the connection.
-
Match and flag
ClinikPe puts each value on the right report field, converts units if mapped, and flags results outside the reference range.
-
Review and release
A technician or pathologist reviews, approves and releases. The report prints and goes out on WhatsApp.
Interfacing protocols in plain language
You don't need to be an engineer to choose software, but knowing which protocol your analyzer speaks saves days of back-and-forth.
| ASTM E1381 / E1394 (CLSI LIS1 and LIS2) | The most common standard on haematology and biochemistry analyzers in Indian labs. Usually over a serial (RS-232) cable or a network port. |
|---|---|
| HL7 version 2 | Common on newer and higher-end analyzers and middleware. Usually over the network (TCP/IP). |
| Serial or file output | Older or simpler instruments print results to a serial port or write a file to a folder. ClinikPe can read many of these too. |
| Proprietary formats | Some instruments use their own format. These need the manufacturer's interface document and take longer to set up. |
Analyzers commonly used in Indian labs
ClinikPe interfaces analyzers by protocol, not by brand. These are examples of instruments widely used in Indian labs. Send us your exact model to confirm.
| Department | What it runs | Example models |
|---|---|---|
| Haematology | CBC, 3-part and 5-part differential | Sysmex XP-100, XN-350/550; Mindray BC-20s, BC-5130; Erba H360; Horiba Yumizen H500 |
| Biochemistry | LFT, KFT, lipids, glucose, enzymes | Mindray BS-240; Erba EM-200; Transasia XL series; Roche Cobas c111 |
| Immunoassay | Thyroid, vitamin D, fertility, cardiac markers | Snibe Maglumi 800/2000; Roche Cobas e411; Siemens ADVIA Centaur |
| Urine | Strip reading, sediment | Urine analyzers with a data output |
| Electrolytes | Sodium, potassium, chloride | ISE analyzers with serial output |
| Coagulation | PT/INR, APTT | Semi- and fully-automated coagulometers |
| HbA1c and point of care | HbA1c, glucose | HPLC and POC analyzers with data output |

Six questions to ask your analyzer supplier first
Most interfacing delays come from the analyzer side, not the software. Ask these before you book setup, and send us the answers.
- Is the LIS or host output enabled on our unit, and is there a charge to enable it?
- Which protocol does it use (ASTM, HL7 or other), and can you share the interface specification?
- Does it support bidirectional host query by barcode, or results only?
- Which port does it use (RS-232 serial or LAN), and is the cable included?
- Which test codes does it send for each parameter, and in which units?
- Will a software update or service visit change the interface settings?
Manual entry vs unidirectional vs bidirectional
| Manual entry | Unidirectional | Bidirectional | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Results typed by staff | Every result | None for interfaced tests | None for interfaced tests |
| Patient and tests entered at the analyzer | Yes | Yes | No, sent from ClinikPe |
| Wrong-patient risk | Highest | Low, matched by barcode | Lowest |
| Time from run end to approval | Waits for typing | Minutes | Minutes |
| Best for | Very low volume | Most small and mid-size labs | Busy labs with barcoding |
Interfaced results also give you an audit trail of where each value came from and who approved it, which helps with NABL ISO 15189 assessments, and they can trigger automatic reagent consumption tracking (early access).
